Summer of 2010, I took on one of the biggest challenges of my life. The Big Ride Across America was a seven week, 3,300 mile bicycle ride from Seattle to Washington D.C. to raise funds and awareness for the American Lung Association® and its critical research, education and advocacy programs.
This cause means a lot to me. I have asthma and live with its affects everyday. Four years ago, I lost a friend who also suffered from asthma. In addition, my Grandfather, James Scott, had emphazima and black lung disease because he was exposed to harmful dust particles from working in the coal mines. My Grandmother also had emphazima, believed to have developed from living in the coal mine community. This ride gave me an opportunity to combine my passion for cycling along with a way to make a difference by creating awareness and raising funds for vital life-saving programs through the American Lung Association.
This adventure challenged my body, mind and spirit. Doing this challenge while raising funds to make a difference in other lives made it even more special.
Relive my journey by checking out my blog, photo album, Facebook Fan Page, and Twitter sites. 2012 Big Riders are taking pledges now, contribute to the American Lung Association by supporting one of the future riders by clicking the pledge button to the right.
